Jesus Came to Set the Captives Free

Jesus Came to Set the Captives Free

As a young girl, I attended a local church with my parents. For that I am so grateful, for it was there I learned about Jesus and His kingdom.  Looking back, it seems that I always desired Jesus in my life. Moving forward, I can honestly say that He has truly been my best friend over the years.

But at that youthful age, my dad would kneel with me at my bedside and teach me to pray.  He taught me the purpose and meaning behind Matthew 6: 9-13; “Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” To that end, I see God’s kingdom accomplished when I see the hungry being fed, the sick being ministered to and healing taking place, prisoners visited by God’s people and people making peace with each other.

Recently, I witnessed the Lord’s work firsthand when a young man I had met shared his personal testimony. For nine years, he had struggled with depression.  Believing friends prayed with him and unbeknownst to him at the time, his life was about to change. Through claiming God’s Word to be true, the darkness that had previously encompassed his life left his body. His mind was renewed “after he put on the new man which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” (Ephesians 4:23-24)  In fact, he was set free!  He had learned that he was sealed unto the day of redemption. This gentleman’s life changing words today come straight from the Bible. He shares the same message with the people he knows and meets. That is, “The joy of the Lord is my strength.”  He has an amazing testimony.

This young man’s life changing experience is not the only one I know. Down through the years, I have witnessed the simple prayers my dad taught me to be true in my own life and in the midst of challenges that have come my way.  Throughout every situation, my Heavenly Father who loved me even before the world was shaped has proven to be a light unto my path and a lamp unto my feet. Indeed, Jesus never fails.

Dear Reader – During this Christmas season, let’s work together to fulfill the meaning of the Lord’s prayer here on earth. Thy Kingdom Come – Thy Will Be Done! Most of all, let’s support one another in our spiritual endeavours, as we all as believers labour to enter into His rest. Press into Jesus today!
