Think on These Things:

Think on these things…

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2 )

Tonight, I sat at my local major junior hockey game, in front of me were squealing happy little girls beside me sat a group of 12/13 year old boys. The boys were all kids Keagan goes to school with, none were there with adults. It saddens me that so many teenage kids are completely disconnected from their parents but what upsets me more is the way they talk.

I listened to these boys swear like sailors, every third word was the F-word……not from just one, it came from all four boys!!!!!! I wanted to ask one tonight if his mother knew he talked that way after he completed one sentence with more F bombs than actual words.

As an adult, yes I say words I shouldn’t but I’ve instilled in Keagan that until he is an adult he cannot use those words. I am far from perfect but I want my son to grow up knowing that what comes from your mouth is the FIRST thing people judge you on. So tonight, I asked him if he talks that way when he isn’t around me. Of course he says he doesn’t and I pray that is true.

Life is hard when you are a teenager but as adults WE need to be the role models for our kids. We need to teach them respect, for themselves, for others and for their belongings. We need to pay attention to what comes out of their mouths. We need to teach them that hard work gets rewarded, that perseverance pays off. We NEED to spend time telling our kids they matter, teaching them right from wrong but most of all we need to instil values in them.

If we don’t do these simple things, what are our kids left with???

I don’t want the kids of today growing up thinking they are entitled to whatever they want, because then we end up with a society of grown ups that are incapable of being self sufficient. If we don’t teach them what words are inappropriate, then how do they learn?? Same as if we don’t teach them what respect is, how do they learn to show it??

I hope the kids who sat beside us tonight have bright and amazing futures, I pray they realize they are more important than they think.

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (Collosians 3:2)
