The bunny

The bunny

When I picked my son up from school today, he told me that there was a girl in his class who didn’t ‘do’ Easter.  I was a little surprised that he found that to be of interest since we don’t ‘do’ Easter either.  I don’t know if it was a surprise that there was someone else who didn’t celebrate the holiday or if he had forgotten that we didn’t either.  If it is the latter, I am obviously not doing a good job of helping him learn about this upcoming event.

It’s not about a bunny.  It’s not about the eggs.  It’s about a lamb… well one who acted like a lamb.  A lamb that stood to be slain in our names.  The video above is a good representation of how I feel.   It’s hard to explain to our children the realities of this world.  It is an incredibly scary place.

I stumbled across an article last night about a terrorist who had been found out and arrested.  He was part of a plan to create a deadly chemical gas.  It was horrifying to read.  So much hatred.  So much evil.  The most horrifying part though, was that this man who had been arrested was living very close to my old home town.  It hit home. How do we explain to our kids the horrors that live both far away and too close to home???

The answer is we don’t.  There is no explanation for those things.  Instead let’s explain to them what they truly need to know.  The truth.  The living truth.  Jesus is alive!  He gave His life so that we might have a chance to give ours to Him and to tell others the truth.  We don’t need to dwell on the sadness of this world.  We don’t need to let the enemy instil fear in us for the Bible has told us not to be afraid. (Matthew 14:27)  We do not need to worry about tomorrow because we don’t hold that.  (Matthew 6:34)

Our children need to learn the truth but I am learning that the truth is different then I always thought.  I thought that I had to show them everything but I only need to show them Jesus because the world will show itself.

Praise Jesus from whom all blessings flow.  Praise Jesus for giving peace when there are wars, joy when there is grief, love when there is so much evil.  Praise Jesus for teaching us what the truth really is.
