As a husband in today’s society I grew up with idiotic father figures like Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin. I know they are meant for humour, but they diminish the husbands role in the household. Husbands are called by God to “love their wife as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her”. Most people would agree that the man in the house is also protector of the house. I’m not referring to a physical battle you would need to protect your family from, although that may be the case, I speak of the battles we face in the spiritual realm. It is our duty as husbands to pray for our wives as the spiritual leaders of our homes.
Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”
I will not give satan any more credit than he deserves other than to acknowledge that he exists and only exists to cause suffering and heartache. We must be diligent in our prayer time and put on the full armor of God to protect our families. “Prayer without ceasing” the bible says. The enemy looks for a window to crawl into. Don’t give him the option.
We live in a busy world today. My wife and I have four beautiful children. We lead a busy life, though I must note, my wife leads a busier one. She needs encouragement and to know that her husband is with her every step of the way. You must find the time to pray. Jesus went out early to pray in the quiet of the morning. I don’t think it has to be in the morning. There are two key words though, pray and quiet, that I will highlight. Jesus set the bar, He is the perfect example of what we as people should strive for. I like to pray in the car while I drive. I leave the radio off and escape media. Then I am better able to focus my thoughts and listen to the voice of God.
I will close with a prayer for my wife.
Dear Jesus, I pray that you would strengthen my wife in mind, body, and spirit. May all of the fruits of Jesus’ Spirit fill her up and overflow. I declare Jesus is the head of our home that no evil can penetrate. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth I pray.
