I pray for my son everyday. I pray that he is happy, healthy, kind, and successful. I pray that he learns while in school, that he is safe wherever he goes. I have prayed about him being successful in sports, that he makes that team he really wants to be on. But this morning, as I drove home from taking everyone to school and work and getting groceries, I listened to a Christian radio broadcast and realized I’ve never prayed for him to be what God intended children to be. I’ve never once prayed that he would be a BLESSING to others.
Read it again…..I’ve never prayed, not even once for my son to be a BLESSING to others. Not once in almost 15 YEARS!!!!!!!
The radio program was about how children are a gift from God, how they are a miracle given to us. How God made each one a blessing to us … so that they can in turn be a blessing to others. As I listened, I got stuck on the fact that I’ve been unsuccessful at having kids after I had my son. I asked God ‘why’ have I not been given the gift of more kids. All I’ve ever wanted was a houseful of kids to love and care for — to make my husband a daddy. But then my heart stopped being ungrateful and I actually listened to the message.
I’m BLESSED! I’ve been given something greater then a houseful of my own kids. Maybe and most likely a baby will never grow in my belly again, but every single day I’ve been given a chance to pray for a houseful of kids to be a BLESSING in someone’s life!!!!! In the last 7 years, I’ve had countless kids come to my home through either my son’s friends or my home childcare business. Imagine how many beautiful blessings I could have sent out into this world — had it occurred to me to pray that these kids become a blessing to others???
I’m somewhat stunned that despite knowing every child is a gift or a blessing to their families, it never crossed my mind to pray about this. And here I was, starting my morning cranky because somehow the cord I use to play music in the car, off my phone had ended up in my house…..and I had to listen to the radio. Lol — Jesus really works in mysterious ways;)
