What is wrong with society??? A question I ask myself on a daily basis. We ask ourselves why do horrible things happen. An entire city evacuated because of a man made forest fire. Tornadoes ripping through communities and devastating schools. Tsunamis killing millions of people. Two planes flying into the World a Trade Center. A car bomb blowing up a government building.
A teenager walking into a school and killing his school mates.
A 20 year old man walking into an elementary school and killing both students and teachers.
A grown man walking into a night club killing and injuring over 100 people.
Society blames global warming. Mental illness. Drugs. Bullying. Radicalism. Video games. God.
But not one person is willing to open their eyes and see that the problem starts with us — you and I. It starts with looking the other way under the guise — “It’s not our problem.” It starts with letting our youth be unaccountable for their actions. It starts with forgetting to put others before ourselves. It starts with believing our kids can do no wrong. It starts with us forgetting GOD!!!!!
When I was little, we sang a song in Sunday school J-O-Y.
J-O-Y, J-O-Y, this is what it means Jesus first, your own self last, and others in between.
But, sadly, in today’s world, we’ve gotten the message wrong. Today, the majority of us put the needs of ourselves front and center with God is at the bottom of our priority basket. We have taken Him out of our homes, schools, lives and in some cases, we have even removed God Almighty and the sharing of His abundant love and mercy from our churches.
This hurts my heart…..because if we lose God, our values and morals go away too. And in a world without morals, it’s okay to walk into a bar and start shooting people. It’s okay to walk into a school filled with tiny kids and fire 154 rounds of bullets in FIVE minutes,. It’s okay to fly an airplane into a tall building, killing countless people in the wake.
The other day, one of my after school kids told me that he was going to love hell, and that the fire would be cool. He is 9. Let that sink in for a moment. He is 9. He is in grade 4. Admittedly, he does not know what hell is about, but still, he says it’s cool.
Folks, we need Jesus. Our homes, schools, businesses, parks, and our churches need JESUS. And this is non-negotiable. The world is falling apart at the seams and throughout, Jesus is no doubt weeping at the mess we have made. We need to reclaim our Lord God, our faith, our hope in Him who is the Giver of Life. Most of all, we need to put Him first because Jesus is the ONLY One who can bring JOY …. and how, in these times when our world is changing every day, what we do know is how much our world needs the JOY that flows from knowing Jesus as our Saviour.
1 John 5:4
– “For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, [even] our faith.”
