Love Never Fails

“Charity suffereth long, and is kind. Charity envieth not. Charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. Charity doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil. Charity rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoice in the truth. Charity beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never fails but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. But love never fails.” (I Corinthians 13:4-8)

Except that love has failed. Charity fails everyday. We read the news and the top stories are about forgotten children, mass shootings, families torn apart by destruction and depression. Love – It has failed our children, it fails in our homes, it fails our perception of living, and it has failed me.

A week ago I was asked ‘What is it that you want? What will make you truly happy? What will make you complete?’

I didn’t even have to think about my answer, It was simple – ‘To be LOVED, to be unconditionally loved’. To be held through mistakes and forgiven. To be laughed with and not at. To know that each day you begin and end it with the one you love. To really be loved would complete me.

My friend said to me “you can’t have the Hollywood love. It does not exist. This perception of love is a fairytale, you need to be more realistic.” The sad thing about our conversation was throughout, I knew he was right.

You see when we talk about love, we talk about the Hollywood kind. We live the one kind of love that is disappointing. We set ourselves up for multiple failures in our lives. We set goals that can never be reached. Our life is dictated by a love that simply doesn’t exist. That’s because we have forgotten the true meaning of love. By letting this kind of love control who we are, we will continue to fail our children. We will continue to fail ourselves.

But the kind of love that our heart desires surrounds us day in and day out. It is there — we just need to accept it. The kind of love that is unconditional only comes from Jesus. You feel the warmth, when you sing His praises. You feel Him laugh in every one of your smiles. You feel His tears in every raindrop. You feel His heart in yours when you stop for a moment and listen. To experience this kind of Love, just look up and open your heart to him. Feel His love – Because His Love Never Fails.

And then let’s teach our children about His kind of love and let them experience His love for them firsthand.  My Grandpa taught me about this love – A love I had forgotten until last week when in a simple conversation I was reminded that the love I so desire ‘DOES EXIST!’

Like me, you and I just need to look in the right direction. So next time you are looking for love, remove yourself from the earthly expectations concerning love. Instead, surround yourself in HIS LOVE. Therein, He will cuddle you through the good times and bad. In fact, when you accept Jesus into your life, you will experience His very real and truly unconditional love!
